Commentaries and Concordances
GSB: 12:30 And he took their king's crown from off his head, the weight whereof [was] a {s} talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was [set] on David's head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance.
(s) That is, 60 pounds after the weight of the common talent.
WES: 12:30 The weight - Or rather, the price whereof, and c. For the same words both in Hebrew, Greek and Latin, are used, to signify either weight, or price. And the addition of precious stones, which are never valued by the weight of gold, makes this signification most probable. Moreover, the weight might seem too great either for the king of Ammon, or for David to wear it upon his head.
MHC: 12:26-31 To be thus severe in putting the children of Ammon to slavery was a sign that David's heart was not yet made soft by repentance, at the time when this took place. We shall be most compassionate, kind, and forgiving to others, when we most feel our need of the Lord's forgiving love, and taste the sweetness of it in our own souls.
