Romans 14:20 Parallel Translations

Don't ruin God's work because of what you eat. All food is acceptable, but it's wrong for a person to eat something if it causes someone else to have doubts.(GOD'S WORD®)

For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.

14:20 For meat destroy not the work of God. A rigid insistence on eating the meat so offensive to some of the brethren may rend the church.
All things indeed [are] pure. All kinds of food are morally clean. See Ro 14:14.
But it [is] evil. It is morally unclean to him who eateth with hurt to his conscience.

14:20 The work of God - Which he builds in the soul by faith, and in the church by concord. It is evil to that man who eateth with offence - So as to offend another thereby.

MHC:

14:19-23 Many wish for peace, and talk loudly for it, who do not follow the things that make for peace. Meekness, humility, self-denial, and love, make for peace. We cannot edify one another, while quarrelling and contending. Many, for meat and drink, destroy the work of God in themselves; nothing more destroys the soul than pampering and pleasing the flesh, and fulfilling the lusts of it; so others are hurt, by wilful offence given. Lawful things may be done unlawfully, by giving offence to brethren.
