GSB: 47:1 Come down, and sit in the dust, O {a} virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: [there is] no {b} throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.
(a) Which has lived in wealth and wantonness and has not yet been overcome by any enemies.
(b) Your government will be taken from you.
WES: 47:1 Down - From thy throne. Virgin - So, called, because she was tender and delicate. No throne - For thee. The empire is taken from thee, and translated to the Persians. Called - Be so.
MHC: 47:1-6 Babylon is represented under the emblem of a female in deep distress. She was to be degraded and endure sufferings; and is represented sitting on the ground, grinding at the handmill, the lowest and most laborious service. God was righteous in his vengeance, and none should interpose. The prophet exults in the Lord of hosts, as the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel. God often permits wicked men to prevail against his people; but those who cruelly oppress them will be punished.
